Merging old and new together in a meaningful way

The challenge of this project was to design a first phase building on a site that contained an existing house that needed to be left in place until the second phase of the proposed masterplan was constructed. A meaningful and sensible relationship needed to be maintained between the new and existing buildings and the new parking lot and drives that allowed reason access and traffic circulation in the interim.

The resultant 8,000 square foot first phase stands on its own yet will eventually become a part of a larger campus. The building contains a 200 seat multipurpose sanctuary with a stage, lobby, classrooms, kitchen, offices, and related support spaces. The building exterior is a combination of brick veneer and horizontal lap siding. The overall masterplan will include a larger sanctuary and lobby along with additional classrooms and offices.
