One of the top hockey training programs in the country sought to create a training facility to meet the ever demanding needs of the Minnesota hockey player. Working with an extremely tight budget, the challenge was remodeling and expanding an existing indoor tennis facility into two NHL size hockey rinks along with related spaces that included state of the art ice sheets, a pro shop, concession area, 13 locker rooms, showers, a curling area, offices, spacious “hall of fame” lobby, expansive window viewing areas, and public restrooms. The existing structures, with their clear span truss design, allowed for a cost effective remodeling and addition of the two rinks. The resulting design gave the dated existing building a completely new look, new front, and attractive new main entrance. (Photography by Jeff Contreras)
